I used to share a weekly (some of the time) round-up of good things Iām experiencing and reading on the internet and I wanted to start again. I donāt know if this will be every week. I canāt commit to that right now but I want to share it when I read something good and true and beautiful.
So much of today feels fast and rushed, and constantly moving. But lately, Iāve discovered some slow things and I want to relish in those things. I hope the posts, stories, books, and ideas I share each week(ish) will enlighten and inspire you.
This week, Iāve been forced to slow down (which was needed) because my daughterās been sick and I have been up most nights to take care of her. Life does that sometimes when I know I need to slow down but then donāt, something generally happens which forces me to slow down. Iām trying to pay more attention and be better at slowing down before we all get sick.
Letās dive into the good things from this week.
Beautiful & ordinary things this week š
āWe can turn our homes into book monasteries, populated by silent monks who stand patiently on their shelves, waiting for us to commune with them. We can preserve and carry on the best of human society, one that will live on long after the floodwaters of digital dross fade away.ā This is a long article, but well worth reading.
I am reading The Hobbit for the first time. Iāve had it on my shelf for a while now, and
is hosting a read-a-long of The Hobbit so I decided to dive in. Iām not very far yet, but Iāve been pleasantly surprised at how much Iāve been laughing while reading. I was worried I would struggle to want to read more, but I find myself wanting to pick it up when I canāt read. I also have the audio, so maybe Iāll switch between the physical and the audiobook to read more.Reading about other creatives, and their process, is so fascinating to me. Especially when their medium is different than mine. I loved this interview that Maggie Smith shared on her Substack with artist Lanie Wurzel.
As usual, The Part-Time Poets knocked it out of the park this month with Issue 11. Itās been a while since I shared a poemā¦but hopefully more will be coming soon. Donāt forget to subscribe so you can read The Tortured Poets Department (Part-Time Poets Version) which will be published later this month in honor of Taylor Swiftās new album.
